About

A group of parishioners and friends of St Mary & St Michael's Catholic Church, Llanarth are taking part in the Big Lent Walk to raise money to help people living in extreme poverty globally. This is especially important now in the aftermath of the pandemic, with the far-reaching effects of the war in Ukraine, and for families living in places devastated by natural disasters and extreme weather caused by climate change.

Clare, Jenny G., Jenny P., Julie, Lexi, Mary, Michael, Nora, Pete, Peter, Philippine, and Tom will be walking a total of 2000km over the 40 days of Lent in solidarity with people in great need. We are fundraising for CAFOD, an international development charity and the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD reaches out to people living in poverty with practical help, whatever their religion or culture.

CAFOD's global network of local experts work alongside communities to deliver what those communities say they need, such as emergency food and shelter, access to clean water, farming supplies, or tools to fight the climate crisis. For example:

£10 can provide nutritious warm meals and shelter to refugees who have fled their homes due to conflict.

£25 can give a child a school uniform, stationery and a school bag – simple, everyday items needed to attend lessons.

£50 can provide a family with emergency food following a disaster caused by climate change.

We appreciate that times are difficult financially for many people at the moment. Any donation you can make, big or small, is very much appreciated. Thank you for your support in helping to make a difference!
